Liz Simpson: The Book of Chakra Healing
Over the past few decades there has been an explosion of interest in complementary medicine. It has led to a deeper understanding of how the body functions and how energy flows through it. At the same time, people have developed a greater awareness of a more subtle energy system- the chakra system. This is like discovering a part of the anatomy that we did not know existed and being able to use it to enhance our health and well-being.
The yogis have used the chakra system for thousands of years as an integral part of holistic healing; knowing that a person's illness often first manifest itself in the chakras, before the body, mind, and emotions. Moreover, they knew that no one could be completely healed if the chakra system continued to be out of balance. Even today it is often only an advanced yogi, a healer, or "sensitive who can "see" a blockage in a particular chakra.
The chakras are metaphysical vortices of energy originating in the ancient Indian system of healing, which position them in seven major centers down the body, controlling the flow of subtle energies. They symbolize the connection between the spiritual and the physical, and coincide with the body's endocrine system. When they are in balance each of the seven major chakras help a particular part of the body to function perfectly. When unbalanced, dysfunctional, or "blocked", a whole range of mental, emotional, and physiological conditions can manifest themselves.
Chakra comes from the Sanskrit word meaning wheels and refers to each of the seven energy centers of which our consciousness, our energy system, is composed. These energy centers regulate the flow of energy through our energy system.
Reiki views disease from an energetic standpoint. This form of energy healing centers around removing the symptoms of mind and body disorders. The Reiki practitioner looks for areas in the energy field that are blocked and restricting flow of energy to the physical body. Reiki operates through the interaction between the chakras and endocrine glands and, in this way it involves the physical, energetic, and metal planes in the healing process. We concentrate on the chakra system in order to understand why a disorder exists and create a positive energetic shift.
