The first chakra is located at the base of the spine. This connects us to the Earth. The Muladhara governs our basic instinct and provides grounding. This in turn supports our self-confidence and self-worth. The base chakra prepares our vitality and Universal Life Force Energy for the chakras above it. It provides the base frequency of human existence including the instinct for survival. The root is the seat of our Kundalini energy distribution and supply. This energy center is red, associated with the Earth element and resonates to the musical note C. The corresponding glands are the adrenals. This chakra is connected to our physical self. When in balance, we feel physically grounded and connected to the Earth and our families; physical energy is good and our issues around survival have been resolved. If contaminated or weak, depression, poor self-esteem, addictions and excessive "people-pleasing" behaviors result. This leads to a lack of physical vitality or the will to live and fear of life itself. The world doesn't feel safe and we have basic survival issues. Worry about money and hanging on to old family beliefs that no longer serve us deplete this power center. In healing the Muladhara, a strong Earth connection must be made. We rejuvenate this energy center when we interact with our families and loved ones in a mature and healthy way. We earn to trust that the Universe is a safe place and hold a prosperity consciousness.
